You've Got To Groove
ToP, a FUNK band, rocked the house at Chukchansi, but the audience didn't seem to get into it, and I think the band didn't either, except for a few. Paula Cole is, and will always be, chairs do not mix with FUNK bands.
Larry spent much of his time trying to get the people out of their seats, and they reluctantly did so for a song, then plopped back down. ToP should have a rider stating that seats should only be available on the periphery of the stage and/or balcony - that the front of the stage be standing room only.
People have to move when these guys play. This time the band played 4 songs from their tribute cd, "Great American Soulbook," which was great, but I would love to have heard one less song from there if it meant that I could have heard "Knock Yourself Out" among the encore.
The lights came up at 9:30, exactly one and a half hours after they started. This was the umpteeth time that I've seen these guys - my first time was in 1974. I generally see them when they come to Europe twice a year, and as often as I'm on the west coast. I've seen them really fire up the german crowds. They don't bother with seats there either.
